Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment and Universal Controls Group (UCG) have announced the merger of their two companies. This merger will offer metalworking manufacturers a more unified solution for machinery and electrical control systems. UCG has acquired the operations, customer contracts, and inventory of Universal Tube & Rollform, and will continue operations of both the UTUBE and UCG brands.
Founded in 1984 by Ralph Girkins, Universal Tube & Rollform is a worldwide supplier of tube mills, roll formers, and coil handling machinery. Based in Perrysburg, Ohio, USA, the company offers one of the world’s largest in-stock inventories of tube mills and auxiliary equipment, along with an in house machine shop that specializes in machine reconditioning.
UCG was formed in 2005 by Ken Metzger; while working in sales at Universal Tube & Rollform, along with Ralph Girkins and Laura Smirin. UCG builds new control panels, die accelerators, drive systems, and complete automation solutions for industrial machinery. Working together under one roof, the two companies offer a one-stop source for metalworking machinery and control systems.
“The reason for the merger was to reduce the overhead cost of running two companies,” said Ralph Girkins. “Both companies have always worked together. The merger will eliminate duplicate costs and allow us to remain competitive throughout the industry. Our products and service capabilities will continuously grow as our two companies unite into one.”
Ken Metzger has forged a relationship with ERWTech, new machinery manufacturers in Turkey, and has become the U.S. distributor of their quality tube and pipe machinery. They feature a flying cold saw that uses UCGs U-Trak technology and have successfully installed several in the U.S. already. New entry systems, tube mills, high-frequency welders, and other machinery are also available with start-up and field service implemented by Universal.
